Gadot Wonder Dwelling
As an architect, the inspiration for any design comes from many different elements that surround us. Whether they are aesthetic, creative or social, it is our duty as architects to reflect not only the innovation of our times, that push the technological boundaries of what we can create, but more so to let our designs portray, reflect and convey the current state of mind of global affairs of which we are all apart of.
To do this, I had to observe the time we all live in, a time of the #Metoo movement, the collective awakening to gender identity diversity and a wish for a more inclusive, tolerant world.
A world where a global human community stands on the brink of a new horizon, on the edge of a tipping point. A time where the edge of a cliff no longer just presents danger, but a place we must stand on in order to grow and be inspired by each others aspirations and hopes for a more peaceful inclusive planet.
The design of a light embraced open spaces with an abundance of viewpoints was created to evoke, inspire and endure all that we are and all that we dream to become.
The name of the project “Gadot Wonder Dwelling” was inspired and derived from both the architectural, physical world and the cultural one.
The house aimed to deal with the linear points of connection and disconnection of spaces, with its split levels and ample view points from different programmatic space usages.
The Hebrew word Gadot גָּדוֹת, was chosen to portray this mathematical equations of linear algebra as it literally means “banks” or as commonly used as “banks of a river”, which refer and represent not only to the space and its abundance of bank-like spacial experiences, but more so to the times we are all apart of.
The second inspiration to call the house “Gadot Wonder Dwelling”, the cultural one, was derived from both the second meaning of the ancient Hebrew word Gadot גֶ'דוֹת meaning a strong woman and the work of the actor Gal Gadot and her portrayal of the fictional superhero Wonder Woman.
Both inspirations, in combination with the #metoo movement, stand for the annihilation of gender segregation and inequality between genders in our world.
As architecture is and always has been a reflection of the times it is built in, I wanted to make sure to address not only the aesthetic of the design of the house but as well to create and fathom a space that would invite the current dialog of change in our world into its realm.
Creating inspiring spaces for my clients and their family members to live and develop in while making a statement that in a land that knew more evil on this planet, than any other, simply states that good can still flourish, hope can still reside and faith in each other is and what makes us the strongest most powerful version of what we will always wish for and want to become.
As the spaces, their warmth and security protect us from the elements, we are evoked to become the best versions of ourselves that we can. Making this house a place of kindness, of love, of hope, that comes of being hurt and healed a thousand times and then becoming stronger.
