O Apartment
The commonality of an interior job is the need for the utilization of an old space for a modern way of living. But still each interior job is different, based on the clients set of wishes and needs, in this case a performing artist. While creative performing individuals seek attention, during their most creative process they seek seclusion and protection. From this basic concept thinking the O apartment took shape.
As the client did not come to us with a clear set of ideas or singular style he preferred, our job was to find out what his way of life meant to him. The creative and sensitivity of a performer client gave us the basic outline of how to approach the creative process of designing a layout that will both be inviting and allowing him to seclude himself in his time of spiritual and creative cycle.
The O shape concept represents the security of ones private space, a sanctuary if you may, the borders that surrounds our physical being in which we wish to be the safest. It gives the opportunity to segregate some spaces and still allow a functional flow of each of the segregated spaces as its own micro cosmos.
The entrance is the main access point for all parts of the apartment where both kitchen, living room, guest bathroom and private quarters can be accessed.
The private sector consists of a private bedroom with an en suite bathroom that connects to a rehearsal space/performance space that can be opened up to the living space or closed off in times of creative process.
The living room space can be used both as and entertaining space or guest area allowing the kitchen to function as the main gathering point rather than the acceptable living room space.
In essence, the O shape concept created two sustainable units of living in on.
